La célèbre Rhapsody in Blue du compositeur américain est le fruit de sa rencontre, dans les années 1920, avec le chef d'orchestre Paul Whiteman et l'arrangeur 'Ferde' Grofé. Retraçant l'histoire de cette collaboration exceptionnelle, Steven Richman et l'Harmonie Ensemble/New York ont complété cet enregistrement par une sélection d'airs de Gershwin qui ont marqué Broadway. Grâce à la reconstitution des orchestrations originales de Grofé et à la participation du clarinettiste Al Gallodoro, ce disque nous fait revivre les origines du jazz symphonique.
