Hot Stew
Edité par John Murray - paru en 2021
Hot Stew tells the story of an unlikely group of individuals, those from the top echelons of society down to the lowest. All are in some way connected to a Soho brothel which is in the process of being shut down for redevelopment. There's Agatha, the billionaire owner of the building that the brothel is housed in whose wealth was inherited from an elderly father she never met; Precious and Tabitha, two of the women who work in the brothel and call it their home; the men who visit, including Robert, a one-time member of a far-right group; Jackie, a policewoman intent on making London a safer place for all women; and a collection of vagabonds and strays who occupy the basement of the building. Hot Stew is an insightful and ambitious novel about property, ownership, wealth and inheritance. It is about the place we occupy in society, especially women, and the importance of class and money. It doesn't shy away from asking difficult questions but does so with humour and intelligence.
