Le succès des albums Modern Sounds in Country And Western Music de 1962 a ouvert la voie à la liberté créative de Charles en tant qu'artiste. Tout au long du reste de sa carrière, il a continué à montrer sa profonde affinité pour la musique country. L'album Country and Western Meets Rhythm and Blues de 1965 (alias Together Again) présente la version intemporelle de Ray du standard country de Buck Owens « Together Again ». Il a également la particularité d'être le premier album que Charles a enregistré dans son propre studio d'enregistrement RPM International
