Avec une carrière entamée au milieu des années 60, Cat Stevens fait partie de ces artistes discrets mais charismatiques qui marquent le rock des années 60-70. De succès en échecs commerciaux, le songwriter britannique devient, avec la parution de Tea for the Tillerman, un des chanteurs folk les plus connus des années 70. Mêlant sonorités folk et mélodies pop, cet album sera surtout marqué par le raz de marée du cultissime "Wild world", qui devient avec "Father and son" l'hymne de toute une génération
