Quand ils débarquent sur l'île Maurice en juin, les Français les attendent pour remplacer les esclaves dans les champs de cannes à sucre.

    Première partie très prenante, meilleure encore qu'un autre roman de cette auteure. Les attentes pour la partie se déroulant à Maurice étaient donc grandes, et cette partie ne tient pas ses promesses, elle donne l'impression d'avoir été sabordée... dommage, car c'est un sujet peu connu en Europe...
