Après avoir enregistré avec éclat la Missa Sancti Pauli de Conti et Les Indes galantes de Rameau, György Vashegyi à la tête de son Orfeo Orchestra et du Purcell Choir signe le premier enregistrement mondial d'une passion écrite par Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel, un compositeur pratiquement inconnu y compris de l'amoureux le plus passionné de musique baroque, et ce, bien qu'il s'agisse d'une personnalité importante de la vie musicale en Allemagne dans la première moitié du XVIIIe siècle ; il était de fait tenu en très grande estime par Johann Sebastian Bach, pour ne citer que la plus haute autorité.
