''The crying light'' marque le retour d'Antony & The Johnsons, lauréat du Mercury Prize en 2005 pour ''I am a bird now''. Après avoir prêté sa voix sur deux titres du dernier album de Björk ou et sêtre improvisé comme diva disco sur ''Hercules & love affair'', Antony Hegarty s'est recentré sur sa musique et a enregistré aux côtés de Nico Mulhy, un album dans la continuité du précédent mais à la production plus aboutie.
