En 40 ans de carrière musicale, John Scofield est l'un des guitaristes de jazz moderne les plus distinctifs et versatiles, sa capacité de jouer dans des configurations aussi bien fusion, funk, blues, bebop, country, drum'n'bass, avant-garde ou encore pop tout en gardant sa voix unique, est sans égal. En plus d'avoir dirigé nombreux ensembles et d'avoir enregistré près de 40 albums, il a joué avec les plus grands du jazz parmi lesquels Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, George Duke, Joe Henderson, Billy Cobham et Herbie Hancock, pour n'en citer que quelques-uns.
