En 1969, Pink Floyd dévoile son projet live conceptuel en deux parties, "The man" et "The journey", basés sur le rêve, l'éveil et les autres activités humaines sur une période de 24 heures. Inédites sous cette forme, certaines de ces chansons ont été utilisées sur la bande-son de "More" et dans l'album "Ummagumma". Ce volume fait référence aux concerts "The Man and the Journey" donnés à Amsterdam et à Londres pour la BBC, mais il propose également les titres bonus de la bande-son de "More'"entendus dans le film mais absents du disque et des titres hors-albums comme la première version d'Embryo, extraite du sampler "Picnic" publié par Harvest Records.
