Tremblement de terre très doux
Un roman post-apocalyptique ? Certes. Mais c’est surtout un roman (composé en analepses successives) qui parle d’aujourd’hui, de nos habitudes, de l’électricité, d’internet, des transports aériens, du monde du travail, de notre propension à vivre comme des « somnambules de haut niveau »… Pour le plus grand bonheur du lecteur, Emily St John Mandel, rêve la beauté de notre monde. Ah ! Comme nous l’aimerions si celui-ci disparaissait ! Soulignons que Mandel commence son livre en citant Czeslaw Milosz « Le côté lumineux de la planète s’enfonce dans les ténèbres Et les villes s’endorment, chacune à son heure Et pour moi, aujourd’hui comme alors, c’en est trop. Le monde est trop présent. »
