L'écossais Garth Knox a été, suite à une invitation de Pierre Boulez, altiste de l'Ensemble Intercontemporain puis du Quatuor Arditti de 1990 a 1997. Il a collaboré avec Ligeti, Stockhausen, Xenakis, Henze et improvise régulièrement avec Benat Achiary, Dominique Pifarely ou Bruno Chevillon. Egalement spécialisé dans la musique baroque, il était tout désigné pour convenir, en parfaite osmose avec le Saltarello Trio (déclinaison du trio Mediaeval reprenant le titre d'un opus récent de Garth Knox pour ECM) au caractère éminemment folklorique des compositions du Book of angels de Zorn.
